Words from the Designer
Great textile artists are far and few between. Many possess the skills to deliver a high quality product, but not the creativity to cement their longevity as a designer. As my interiors span different periods, tastes, and concepts, I am always looking for artists who can design in different realms. Luckily for me, I found Liz at Porter Flea here in music city. Based in Nashville, Liz creates everything from textiles to ceramics and paintings. She is a true creative who is not bound by any limits.
I commissioned Liz to create a collection of velvet pillows for a client's updated living room. Having dealt with a vast number of commissions in the past, I always find it beneficial to give the artist only three guidelines. Her guidelines included size, color and the historical inspiration of Osaka rugs from the 1940's. The resulting collection was a well balanced design bridging contemporary techniques with Osaka heritage.
